Podcast Summary, Episode #11: Problematic LDSisms
Problematic Issues of the LDS Theology
A discussion wherein we attempt to put our listeners to sleep while discussing the LDS(Mormon) church and the fallacies they hide or just plain ignore.
Prologue
- Our discussions range through Joseph Smith’s history, the Book of Abraham/Pearl of Great Price, revelation, etc.
Main Story
- If Joseph Smith was truly a prophet doing the works of God, why is it he was arrested four years before the Book of Mormon for running a money scam? Did God want Joseph Smith to gain this money to bring the Book of Mormon to fruition?
- What is the actual translation process Joseph Smith used to translate the Golden Plates and is it the same depiction the LDS church has in their various paintings of Joseph Smith while he was translating?
- The copyright issues within the Book of Mormon vs. the King James version Bible is a rather damning issue. Not only this, but the revelations brought out by the Book of Mormon are far more specific than those of the Bible which also date this as a post 1700 writing. Does this also include the Book of Mormon characters Martin Harris brought to Professor Anthon?
- The audience discovers through Joseph Smith’s wives that Leighton is possibly a pedophile, surely an agist, probably a sexist, but most definitely hates the mentally challenged. They also discover an interesting story wherein Oliver Cowdery accused Joseph Smith of adultery with Fanny Alger.
- Through revelation from Joseph Smith, recorded in the Doctrine and Covenants, we discover that God is loose with the truth.
- Joseph Smith is brought forward by his people to translate some Egyptian papyri, the papyri he translated as the Book of Abraham is sold to the museum by Joseph’s wife, a fire is believed to destroy these, but then they are discovered once more. Very damning evidence against Mormonism when it is discovered through concrete evidence that Joseph Smith’s translations are incorrect.
- Hugh Nibley attempts, very poorly, to refute the fact that Joseph Smith incorrectly translated the Egyptian papyri.
- A short intro of the Adam God doctrine is provided.
Epilogue
- Next week we will continue our discussion on LDS fallacies with an in depth discussion of what the Adam God doctrine is and how it is damning to Mormon theology.
