[irrelig]For our 50th podcast, who else could we have on but the guy who gave us our lowest iTunes review ever — our very own Mims Carter, of the Mims Carter Skunk Dick of the Week Award, which has only been won by Mims Carter. Mr. Carter takes us through his experiences as an out atheist in the most religious state in the Union, Mississippi. The discussion is wide-ranging as always and includes politics, family life, and Leighton’s nearly-always irrelevant experiences.
For those of you who can’t access US iTunes reviews, here is the text of Mims Carter’s review in its entirety:
Not Funny ★★
by mims carter – Dec 17, 2009
A couple of snarky, immature young male atheists who take cheap shots at religious people and have fun accusing other snarky, immature young male atheist podcasters of being snarky, immature young male atheists. As with other atheist podcasts of this ilk, the only redeeming feature of this podcast is that they are atheists, and they occasionally interview someone with something to say. The podcast featuring tall penguin was actually informative when they let her talk. Fewer skunk dick jokes and more substance would be nice.
Catch the fireworks here.

So, I go to Itunes to read reviews, and there are none?
Interesting stuff. Respect for anyone that can be an honest atheist in that part of the country. My parents don’t even know about my filthy little secret (though I think they suspect) and I’m in Portland, one of the hotbeds of godless liberalism.
@ptah: Unfortunately, iTunes localizes reviews. So we only have access to American reviews, and those outside of the US only have access to reviews in their region. I edited the post above to include the text of Carter’s 2-star review.
Haven’t finished listening but great ep so far. Mims Carter I think is one of my favorite guests. (I like the skunk dick jokes and find guests get in the way.) Can wait til the end of the work day to listen to the rest on my commute home.
Most excellent podcast. Good on you Mims! If not for this and the Atheist Experience, I would probably not be an out Atheist for several more months.
Thanks for being so knowledgeable about the various topics you tackle.
Aha, Itunes sucks big donkey balls, then. But probably has the emission of horses, then…
But since you are so self-absorbed that you read your reviews on the podcast you might as well put them up on your webpage as well.
Unfortunately, the only thing that outweighs my self-absorbedness is my laziness.
I can’t believe the 3x skunk dick award champion lives my home state, and in my home region of south Mississippi! I’ve never felt so proud.
Except, unlike him, I’ve lived here my entire life. It sucks, really. :-/
*in my home state
I blame the schools.
Great podcast… enjoyed hearing about the infamous Mims… will there still be a skunk-dick award? Hope so, and bought you a beer as blatant bribe 🙂
*as A blanant bribe… I blame the beer 😉
*I give up… and now I’m totally surrounded by no beer…
It looks like you guys have a little southern MS following, because I am number three. I love you guys and I love Mr. Skunk Dick. So that makes a total of three atheist in south MS? But I think I know Anthony. And Jesus Christ not in the biblical or cousins make dozens sense..
Three words… More. Mims. Carter.
One of the best guests to date. I think you should do more interview with average everyday atheists to show people what how they deal with being an out atheist and how they go about being so-called “most hated minority” in the US, especially people like Mims Carter (and myself) who live in hotbeds of fundamentalism where being a known and open atheist can, and does have a negative impact on their everyday life. It’s a cross section of the atheist community that is under represented in atheist podcasts which mainly stick to debateding/antagonising christian callers, interviews with the “New Atheists”, or incredibly bad and extremly annoying attempts at accents to the near exclusion of everything else.
I’d give you guys an iTunes interview, but I won’t have f**l all to do with iAnything so you will have to settle for this comment.
P.S. How about a plug for Fundies Say the Darndest Things! (www.fstdt.net)

Sorry if this is repeating information available elsewhere but if you want to look at foreign reviews on iTunes just click on the shiny little flag icon in the bottom right corner.
Funny thing I checked out Turkey. You are not available there. Neither is the SGU. Skeptoid and skepticality are. What gives ?
